Abstract

The aim of this work was to establish the influence of steam setting conditions on changes tendencies of structure parameters of plated jersey knits. The results could help to predict the duration of stabilisation at which dimensions of knits stay stable. The results of investigation showed, that fabrics of synthetic thermoplastic (PES, EL/PA) and hydrophilic fibres (cotton, wool) knitted in plated jersey knit changed dimensions during steam setting process at 85 °C. It was noticed, that 10 min and 20 min steam setting influenced increase of wales, courses, stitches and area densities, tightness factors of fabrics and reduction of stitch lengths more significant than 30 min of stabilisation. 10 min of steam setting is uncompleted stage of fabric relaxation. Fabrics relax more completely during 20 min of steam setting. This efficiency was observed for all examined samples, nearly independently on fabric composition and the total linear densities of the yarns.
