Abstract

Metal items and metal fibres are parts of many different modern and historical textile objects. Often they can be present as golden or silver metal yarns on tapestries, church governments and decorative materials. Metal buttons which contain different metals and their alloys are present on clothing materials and metal fibres can be found on modern textiles due to their special properties. Since metals may induce many allergic reactions, or even have toxic properties, this paper emphasizes the importance of proper metal characterization of metal items and metal fibres on textile materials by different instrumental methods and analytical procedures.
