Abstract

Anthropometric measurements have been taken since 1901 in order to develop and promote the system of clothing and footwear size. There have been problems since the beginning of the mass production of ready-made clothing concerning which sizes to manufacture for the market and how to designate them. This article gives an overview of the standardization and basic characteristics of the sizing system. Specific studies and anthropometric surveys between 1901 and 2005 are provided. More important characteristics of STIRP, Croatian Anthropometric System and the number of test persons in 20 Croatian Counties and the city of Zagreb are emphasized. Within the scope of STIRP HAS in the period of 17 months of field work 30.866 men, women and children were measured. The children‘s population up to the age of 5.4 is represented in 11 age groups, and within the framework of this paper an overview of the specificities of children‘s growth is given. The final part of the paper relates to the methodological operational implementation of the HAS and some more significant elements which were important and crucial to the successful implementation with the coordination of the multidisciplinary expert team.
